Why you'd want to live in Bergenfield
The earliest settlers in this area were Dutch immigrants. They gave it the name Schraalenburgh, which means barren hill. In 1873, the New York and New Jersey Railroad decided to construct a railway station in this area. However, when the residents could not finalize a name among themselves, the railroad authorities named it Bergen Fields. This was later changed to Bergenfield when the town got incorporated. The town has an active Recreation Committee which sponsors many different activities throughout the year. These include various sports like football, softball, baseball and volleyball. There are special celebrations on occasions like Easter and Halloween, when they arrange an Easter Egg Hunt and a Halloween Parade.
