Ridgewood, New Jersey is 4 miles NE of Paterson, New Jersey and 17 miles N of Newark, New Jersey. It is in Bergen county. The town is part of the Bergen - Passaic metro area. Ridgewood History Johannes Van Emburgh is said to have been the first modern settler who built a home in Ridgewood. At that time the area was called Hochaos. It was named Paramus in 1725. The Paterson and Ramapo Railroad was established in this area in 1848, which lead to rapid development. Ridgewood was established as a town in November of 1894.
